Conducting system of the human heart:
- In the human heart, small groups of specialized neuromuscular cells are present within the myocardium.
- These initiate and conduct impulses, due to which a coordinated and synchronised contraction of the heart muscles is seen.
- The conducting system of the human heart has four components namely- Sinoatrial node (SAN), atrioventricular node (AVN), and Bundle of His and Purkinje fibres.
Atrioventricular node (AVN):
- It is a small mass of self-excitatory neuromuscular tissue situated in the wall of the atrial septum near the atrioventricular valves of the heart.
- It is also known as the node of Twara and Aschoff.
- It is the pacesetter of heart.
