Crossing over:

  1. It is the exchange of chromosomal segments between non-sister chromatids during the pachytene stage of prophase I.
  2. It occurs by the formation of chiasmata and recombination between the crossing over chromosomes.
  3. The enzyme recombinase is responsible for the event.
  4. It results in creating genetic variations in the offspring.

Crossover Interference:

  1. The ability of one crossover to suppress the formation of other crossovers in the vicinity.
  2. It facilitates the effectiveness of homolog linkage in a few species.
  3. The amount of arm cohesion may be insufficient, for example, when two crossovers occur close to each other between the same chromatids.
