  1. Micturition is the process of excreting urine from the body.
  2. The waste products from the body of animals and humans are eliminated using a specialized set of organs known as the excretory system.
  3. A pair of kidneys, ureters, a urinary bladder, and a urethra make up the human excretory system.
  4. The kidneys perform a critical function in the generation and excretion of urine.
  5. The urine is collected in the urinary bladder and stored.
  6. Stretch receptors in the urinary bladder increase their firing rate when the bladder fills up.
  7. This increase the need to urinate and triggers the micturition reflex.
