Mycobiont and phycobiont :

  1. The fungal component of lichen is known as mycobiont and the algal component is known as phycobiont.
  2. Mycobiont absorbs minerals and water for the algae and also provides shelter.
  3. On the other hand, phycobionts prepare food for fungi by utilizing minerals and water.
