Myxoedema:

  1. It is a condition in which there is insufficiency of thyroid hormone.
  2. It is medically referred to as severely advanced hypothyroidism.
  3. The symptoms include swelling and thickening of the skin, mainly in the lower part of the legs.

Possible causes of myxoedema:

  1. Hashimoto's thyroiditis which is an autoimmune condition, is a major cause of myxoedema.
  2. Radiation therapy of cancer.
  3. Pregnancy.
