  1. Reporter gene is an exogenous coding region joined to a promoter region or sequence in an expression vector introduced into the cell and provides the means to measure the promotor activity.
  2. Promoter activity is assessed by measuring reporter protein or assessing the enzymatic activity of the reporter gene.
  3. Examples of reporter genes: GUS, GFP, luciferase, and anthocyanin.
