Rudimentary notochord:

  1. It is also known as stomochord.
  2. It is present in the collar region of Hemichordates, as a hollow and flexible tube.
  3. During embryonic development, it arises as out pocketing from the root of the gut and extends dorsally from the pharynx to the proboscis.
  4. It is lined by ciliated and columnar cells.
  5. It is similar in function to the notochord present in chordates as it also provides support to the body.
