Cytoplasm is a cell component present inside the cell membrane.
It is composed of soluble ions, water, water-soluble proteins, molecules, enzymes, water, lipids, carbohydrates, nucleic acids and inorganic ions.
Functions of cytosol:
Signal transduction: Messenger molecules diffuse through the cytosol from outside the cell or from one part of cell to another to change the functioning of enzymes, organelles, or even DNA transcription.
Enzyme activity: Cytosol ensures optimum salt concentrations, pH levels, and other environmental conditions for the enzymes to work properly.
Acts as the cell's and organelles' structural support.
In prokaryotes without membrane-bound organelles, the cytosol is where nearly all life functions, such as DNA transcription and replication, glycolysis, and other metabolic processes, take place.
