Question

What is the difference between endosome and lysosome?

Open in App
Solution

Endosome:

  1. The main function of endosomes is intracellular sorting.
  2. They control the movement of proteins and lipids between the plasma membrane Golgi, the trans-Golgi network (TGN), and vacuoles, and lysosomes, among other subcellular compartments in the secretory and endocytic pathway.

Lysosome:

  1. Proteins, nucleic acids, carbohydrates, and lipids may all be broken down by the variety of enzymes found in lysosomes, and membrane-enclosed organelles.
  2. The lysosomes release digesting enzymes that break down all the cells if anything bursts.
  3. Cells eventually die as a result of this.
  4. Consequently, lysosomes are known as "suicide sacks of cells."

Difference between endosome and lysosome:

EndosomeLysosome
1. A vesicle is formed by the invasion and pinching of the cell membrane.1. The cytoplasm of eukaryotic cells contains degradable enzymes bound in an organelle membrane.
2. The invagination of the plasma membrane, which results in the formation of endosomes, is caused by the activation of cell surface receptors.2 In particular, endosomes—which contain molecules taken up by endocytosis at the plasma membrane—and transport vesicles budded from the trans-Golgi network combine to generate lysosomes.
3. Contains nutrients including nutrients and germs like bacteria.3. They comprise roughly 40 different kinds of hydrolytic enzymes, including lipases, phospholipases, glycosidases, phosphatases, sulfatases, proteases, and nucleases.
4. The endosome is the cytoplasmic sac. This is where the endocytosis particles are carried.4. The cell organelle contains enzymes that digest the particles and disperse the cell after its death
5. Store the contents until digested.5. Fuse with endosomes, and assist in the digestion of contents inside endosomes.
