What is the difference between spermatid and spermatozoa?
Spermatid:
A spermatid is a haploid male sexual cell formed after meiosis from spermatocytes that eventually matures into a spermatozoon.
Spermatozoa:
The spermatozoa have a head, neck, middle section, and tail. The plasma membrane surrounds the whole sperm body.
Difference between spermatid and spermatozoa:
Spermatid | Spermatozoa | |
1. | These are immature male sperms produced by meiosis from spermatogonia. | They are mature, differentiated, and generated as a result of the spermiogenesis process. |
2. | They have a circular form. | These are longer and have a tail. |
3. | They can be found close to the walls of seminiferous tubules. | They are found in the center of the seminiferous tubules. |
4. | They have Golgi. | There is no Golgi apparatus. |
5. | They are unable to fertilize an egg. | They have the ability to fertilize the egg. |
6. | Their nuclei are big and spherical. | The nucleus is elongated and circular. |
7. | They are motionless. | They have the ability to move. |
8. | The mitochondria are found throughout the cell. | The mitochondria are located in the central portion and supply energy for motion. |
