Photophosphorylation:

  1. It is the process of synthesizing ATP from ADP in the presence of sunlight.
  2. There are two types, cyclic and non-cyclic photophosphorylation.
  3. In Cyclic photophosphorylation, the movement of electrons occurs in a cyclic manner for ATP synthesis that takes place in the thylakoid membrane, and Photosystem I is used.
  4. In Non-Cyclic photophosphorylation, the movement of electrons forms a Z scheme and it uses both photosystems I and II.

The fate of electrons in non-cyclic Photophosphorylation

  1. Electrons transferred from water pass through PS II, then to PS I, and then finally to an electron-rich NADP+ so that it gets reduced to NADPH+H+
