Question

What is the hub in centrioles connected with?

Open in App
Solution

Centrioles:

  1. The centriole is a paired organelle having a barrel shape present in the cytoplasm of the animal cell.
  2. Centrioles play an important role in determining the location of the nucleus and other organelles in the cell.
  3. Centrioles help with the division of the cell and the formation of spindle fibers during mitosis.
  4. If centriole is absent: Spindle formation is delayed, Chromosomes have instability, and Mitosis becomes asymmetric.
  5. The centrosome is an organelle containing two cylindrical structures called centrioles.
  6. They are surrounded by amorphous pericentriolar materials.
  7. Both the centrioles in a centrosome lie perpendicular to each other in which each has an organization like the cartwheel.
  8. The centrioles form the basal body of cilia or flagella, and spindle fibers give rise to the spindle apparatus during cell division in animal cells.
  9. In centrioles, the hub is connected with the tubules of the peripheral triplets through the radial spokes composed of proteins.
