  1. Oviducts are a part of the female reproductive system. There is a pair of oviducts present in females.
  2. Oviducts are also known as fallopian tubes.
  3. They are the passageways that connect both ovaries to the uterus and transport ovum from ovaries to uterus.
  4. It is 10-12 cm long and 0.5- 1.2 cm in diameter.
  5. Oviduct is made up of four parts:
  6. Fimbriae : They are finger-like projections of the fallopian tube that capture the ovum from the ovary.
  7. Infundibulum : It is funnel-shaped and is closer to the ovary. It receives the ovum at the time of ovulation.
  8. Ampulla : It is the wider, middle part of the oviduct. Fertilization occurs in the ampullary region.
  9. Isthmus : It is the last part of oviduct and is closer to the uterus. It has a narrow lumen and is 2 cm long tube. It connects ampulla to the uterine cavity.
