Diplontic life cycle in Fucus:

  • The plant itself is diploid i.e. the sporophytic body.
  • Inside the sporophytic body, reduction division (Meiosis) takes place. It results in the formation of gametes. Gametes are the only haploid structure in its life cycle.
  • The diploid condition is restored in the zygote after fertilization of gametes.
