Open in App
Solution

Leucoplasts:

  1. These are the non-pigmented organelles(plastids) which are colourless.
  2. Leucoplasts are usually found in most of the non-photosynthetic parts of the plant like roots.
  3. They act as a storehouse for starches, lipids, and proteins depending on the need of the plants.

Types of leucoplasts and their functions:

  1. Amyloplasts: Amyloplasts are the greatest among all the three leucoplasts and they store and synthesize starch.
  2. Proteinoplasts: Proteinoplasts help in storing the proteins that a plant needs and can be typically found in seeds.
  3. Elaioplasts: Elaioplast helps in storing fats and oils that are needed by the plant.
