  1. Plastids are the double-membrane organelles that are seen in the cells of plants and algae.
  2. Plastids are responsible for manufacturing and storing food.
  3. Plastids often contain pigments that are necessary for photosynthesis and different types of pigments that can change the color of the cell.
  4. The pigments in plastids are Chloroplasts and Chromoplasts.
  5. Chloroplasts: Chloroplasts are the biconvex-shaped, semi-porous, double membranes, and cell organelle found within the mesophyll of the plant cell. They are sites for synthesizing food by the process of photosynthesis.
  6. Chromoplasts: Chromoplasts are the name given to the area for all pigments to be kept & synthesized in plants. These can also be usually found in flowering plants, aging leaves, and various fruits.
