It is a vestibular organ that helps animals to hear and balance their bodies.
It is separated into three sections: the outer, middle, and inner ear.
Meatus:
The external auditory canal of the outer ear is referred to as the meatus.
The ear canal (also known as the external acoustic meatus or external auditory meatus) is a channel that links the middle and outer ears.
From the pinna to the eardrum, the adult human ear canal is roughly 2.5 centimetres in length and 0.7 centimetres in diameter.
It seems to be a slightly curved tube that runs inward from the auricle's floor or projecting region of the outer ear and stops blindly at the eardrum membrane, which divides it from the middle ear.
The outside third of the canal wall is formed of cartilage, while the interior two-thirds are made of bone.
Insects are discouraged from entering the ear by tiny hair pointed outward and modified sweat glands that create cerumen (earwax).
