Solution

Asexual reproduction:

  1. The reproduction in which only a single parent is involved is known as asexual reproduction.
  2. As a result, a new individual is formed from the single parent.
  3. The union of male and female gamete is not seen in asexual reproduction.

Asexual reproduction in Penicillium:

  1. Penicillium belongs to the Ascomycota division of fungi.
  2. Penicillium is used for the production of the antibiotic penicillin.
  3. Penicillium shows sexual as well as an asexual mode of reproduction.
  4. Asexual reproduction in Penicillium occurs by the formation of asexual spores.
  5. These spores are motile or immotile.
  6. These spores are known as conidiophores.
  7. Conidiophores are produced from the mycelium and are in a branched fashion.
  8. The apex of the branches of conidiophores gives off chains of cells known as conidia.
  9. Conidia resemble spores and have a single nucleus.
  10. The conidiophore after giving out conidia germinates into a new hypha.
Identify the asexual reproductive structures and organisms in which they are seen

Thus, the method of asexual reproduction in Penicillium is by forming conidia.
