Question

What is the pathway followed for the transmission of impulses by efferent nerve fibers?

Open in App
Solution

Transmission of impulse:

  1. The transmission of a stimulus from the receptors of the sensory organ to the central nervous system for processing and the response mediated by the CNS to the effector organ (muscle or gland) is termed impulse transmission.
  2. Efferent pathways deliver signals from the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) to the effector.
  3. Essentially, they may be alerts that your mind sends to inform the body to do something, like blinking.
  4. The sensory organ after receiving the signal from the receptor neuron due to stimuli sends a sign to the relay neuron.
  5. This is accompanied by the relay neuron sending the sign to the motor neuron (efferent neuron).
  6. Further, the motor neuron sends a sign to the effector.
  7. The effector produces an immediate response, for example, pulling away of the hand or a knee-jerk reaction
