Solution

Mitosis:

  1. A type of cell division that produces two daughter cells having the same number and kind of chromosomes as that of the parent cell.
  2. In plants, mitosis helps in the growth of vegetative parts of the plant.
  3. Mitosis occurs in six stages: Interphase, Prophase, Prometaphase, Metaphase, Anaphase, and Telophase.

Metaphase:

  1. Metaphase is said to be the third stage of Mitosis.
  2. During metaphase, the microtubules pull the chromosomes and bring the chromosomes to the middle of the cell.
  3. This region of the cell is known as the metaphase plate.

Thus, the plane of alignment of chromosomes at the metaphase is called the metaphase plate.
