Functions of the plasma membrane:

  1. Plasma membrane provides protection to the cell.
  2. It provides a fixed environment inside the cell.
  3. It transports nutrients into the cell
  4. It also transports toxic substances out of the cell.
  5. It is selectively permeable i.e. it allows specific molecules to pass in and out of the cell.
