Cell cycle:

  1. A cell cycle can be defined as a series of events that occur in a cell when it grows and divides.
  2. A cell spends most of its time in the cell replication process which takes place in the Interphase.
  3. Interphase has G1, S, And G2 phases. Then it enters the mitotic phase and completes cell division.
  4. The objective or purpose of the cell cycle is to replicate the DNA in chromosomes and segregate the copies equally to daughter cells.

The purpose of the cell cycle is as follows:

  1. It helps in growth and development of organisms.
  2. It maintains normal metabolic functions.
  3. It helps in reproduction, and gamete formation.
  4. It helps in repairing and regeneration of damaged cells.
  5. It helps in maintaining the total number of chromosomes in the cell.
