1. The procedure for removing contaminants from the wastewater, especially from the household sewage is called sewage treatment.

2. There are 2 types of processes for the treatment of sewage water-

(a) Primary method:

(i) It works on sedimentation, where solids separate from the water through different tanks.

(b) Secondary method:

(i) It uses aeration, biofiltration, and waste interaction throughout its process.

(ii) It also works by removal of biodegradable organic matter from sewage or similar kinds of wastewater.

(iii) The secondary treatment of sewage water is a physical phase involved with the separation of settled solids, dissolved and other suspended organic compounds.
