Question

What is the stratum spinosum?

Open in App
Solution

Stratum Spinosum:

  1. Due to the projecting cell processes connecting cells via desmosomes, it has a spiky look.
  2. Desmosomes lock with one another and strengthen the connection between cells.
  3. These recognizable features are not present in the unstained epidermal samples. 8–10 layers of keratinocytes make up this structure, which develops as a result of cell division in the stratum basale.
