What is the structure of a Cell Wall?

Open in App
Solution

Cell Wall:

  1. A cell wall is an inanimate part. It protects the cell's outermost layer from the outside environment. A cell wall is an inanimate part. It protects the cell's outermost layer from the outside environment.
  2. It is permeable, separating the cell's internal contents from external elements.
  3. The cell wall is in charge of giving the cell stability, defense, and shape.
  4. Only fungus, eukaryotic plants, and a very small number of prokaryotes contain it.
  5. Chitin, a glucose derivative, makes up the cell wall of the fungus. The exoskeleton of arthropods contains the cell wall as well.
  6. Cells in plants are typically arranged in three layers.
  7. Carbohydrates, cellulose, pectin, hemicellulose, and other minerals are present in lower levels in the cell wall.

The three layers that make up the cell's structure are:

  1. Primary Cell Wall: The initial cell wall is the one that is located the closest to the inside of the cell. Since cellulose makes up this cell wall, it may easily stretch and expand. Structural proteins and pectic polysaccharides are present in the majority of primordial cells. The main cell wall is somewhat porous and thinner than most other layers.
  2. Middle Lamella: It is the cell wall's outermost layer. It acts as a sort of interface, binding the nearby cells together. Pectins make up the majority of the middle lamella. Additionally, this layer contains other materials including proteins and lignin.
  3. Secondary Cell Wall: This wall is created in the interior of the primary cell wall after the cell has fully grown. Lignin and cellulose are components of certain cells, giving them more stiffness and waterproofing. This layer also contributes to the cell's rectangular form. This layer is the thickest layer and provides permeability.
