Solution

Triplet codon

  1. Triplet code is a series of three nucleotides that form a single amino acid.
  2. Each codon consists of three, nonoverlapping nucleotides.
  3. Codons are degenerate means different codons can code for the same amino acid.
  4. For example - AAA and AAG both code for lysine.
  5. Codon is universal meaning the same codon code for the same amino acid in bacteria and humans.
  6. UUU is the codon code for phenylalanine in every living being and is an example of the universal codon.
  7. Codons are unambiguous means one codon codes for one amino acid.
  8. These codons are present on mRNA.
  9. These get translated by tRNA during translation into protein.
  10. George Gamow, a physicist code for all the 20 amino acids, the code should be made up of three nucleotides.
  11. By permutation combination of 43 (4 × 4 × 4) would generate 64 codons; generating many more codons than required.
