V_max:

1. V_max or a maximum velocity of an enzymatic reaction can be defined as the rate of the reaction at which the enzyme shows the highest turnover.
2. Increasing the substrate concentration indefinitely further does not increase the rate of an enzyme-catalyzed reaction after reaching a certain point.
3. At this point, when there are enough substrate molecules to completely fill (saturate) the enzyme's active sites.
4. The active site is substrate binding -reaction site of the enzyme.
5. The maximal velocity, or V_max, is called the rate of a reaction under these conditions.
6. V_max also reflects how fast enzymes can catalyze the reaction.
