What separates sharks from other fish?

Sharks are different from other fishes because of the following characteristics:

1. Sharks are large-sized fishes belonging to the class Chondrichthyes.
2. They have a cartilaginous endoskeleton and the mouth is present ventrally.
3. The gill slits are separated and without operculum.
4. They contain minute placoid scales, teeth are modified placoid scales which are backwardly conducted.
5. They contain very powerful jaws and they are predaceous in nature.
6. The air bladder is absent, so they have to swim constantly to avoid sinking.
7. Sexes are separate in males pelvic fins bear claspers.
8. They have internal fertilization and many of them are viviparous.
9. They have a heterocercal tail.
10. Some of the sharks contain electric organs.
