  1. It is a key mechanism of evolution.
  2. It is the differential reproduction and survival of an individual as a result of variations in the phenotype.
  3. Variations of inheritable characteristics are seen in a population over generations.
  4. Through this mechanism, living entities change and adapt to their environment.
  5. Natural selection is a process governed by changes in environmental factors, these factors produce stress on the organisms.
  6. That compels the organisms to undergo changes, in case the organism undergoes changes suitable to the environment, that is, it is suited to survive in the environment and will also pass on those traits to the next generation until the next change occurs.
  7. In a population, individuals are naturally variable hence, some of these individuals, as a result of the variations possess characteristics that are better suited to the ambiance compared to the others.
