Fruits:

  1. The fleshy or dry ripened ovary of a plant that contains seeds inside it is called a fruit.
  2. There are three main types of fruits depending on whether the carpels are free or fused: simple fruits, aggregate fruits, and composite fruits.
  3. Simple fruits: Fruits that develop from the monocarpellary ovary are known as simple fruits ,e.g. mango, cashew, etc.
  4. Aggregate fruits: Fruits that develop from the multi-carpellary apocarpous ovary are known as aggregate fruits ,e.g. strawberries, custard apples, etc.
  5. Composite fruits: Fruits that develop from many ovaries and other floral parts are known as composite fruits.
  6. Composite fruits are of two types they are Sorosis and Sycosis.
  7. Sorosis is the fruit that develop from a spike, spadix, or catkin inflorescence ,e.g. pineapple, jackfruit, etc.
  8. Sycosis is the fruit that develops from hypanthium ,e.g. ficus species and peepal.

Pineapple:

  1. Pineapple is a type of composite fruit, which means it has developed from many ovaries and other floral parts.
  2. Pineapple is a type of sorosis fruit that is developed of catkins, spikes, or spadix-type inflorescences.
  3. The combination of numerous flowers and their blood vessels, ovaries, and other reproductive organs makes the fruit look thicker.
  4. Thus, pineapple is a sorosis type of fruit.
