Open in App
Solution

Stress response: Any sort of disturbance in the plant's physiological, biochemical, or metabolic processes is termed a stress response. It is mediated by the phytohormone abscisic acid.

The various types of stress that plants experience are as follows:

  1. Environmental stress: All non-living environmental factors negatively impact the growth and development of the plant.
  2. Mechanical stress: Experienced growers can understand the mechanical stress to which plants are very sensitive which includes shaking the plants, movement of air and tissue injury, etc.
  3. Drought stress: This is due to a lack of water for photosynthesis.
  4. Overwatering: Presence of excess water in the soil which provides less oxygen supply for the roots.
  5. Salt stress: The presence of excess salts in soil is toxic to the plants.
  6. Heat stress: It causes dryness to the plant.
  7. Cold and frost damage: It is major damage to the plant.
  8. Chemical damage: Improper use of chemicals causes soil damage and less nutrient absorption of the plants.
