Ribosomes: Small granules composed of RNA and associated proteins found in large quantities in the cytoplasm of living cells. They bind to messenger RNA. And, transfer RNA for polypeptide and protein synthesis.

1. Ribosomes are made up of a large unit and a small subunit.
2. Eukaryotes have 80S ribosomes while prokaryotes have 70S ribosomes.
3. Four binding sites are present in the ribosome, one for mRNA and 3 for tRNA.
4. If the concentration of magnesium ions is lower in the cytoplasm, the ribosomal units will dissociate.
