Question

When does duplication of centrosomes get completed?

Open in App
Solution

Centrosomes: These are cellular organelles found in the animal cells that play a crucial role in cell division by the formation of spindle fibers.

  1. Duplication of a single centrosome is initiated at the G1/S phase transition.
  2. It is completed before mitosis(M phase).
  3. The duplicated centrosomes play a role in organizing the poles of the mitotic spindle.
  4. The centrosomes are segregated at mitosis such that each of the two cells resulting from division receives only one.
  5. The centrosomes act as microtubule-organizing centers (MTOC) and are each starting points for mitosis spindle assembly.
  6. Mitotic entry results in the separation and movement of the two centrosomes to opposite poles of the cell.
  7. After sister-chromatid separation and the process of cytokinesis, two cells will be generated.
