Meiosis in Ferns:

  1. It is a type of reductional division in which the chromosomes gets reduces to half of that of parents.
  2. Spores are called as the most conspicuous in non-seed-bearing plants, including liverworts, hornworts, mosses, and ferns.
  3. In such lower plants, as in fungi, spores function much like seeds.
  4. In general, parent plant sheds the spores locally; spore-generating organs are also frequently located on the undersides of leaves.
  5. In mosses, after fertilization, zygote develop into a sporophyte consisting of a foot, seta & capsule.
  6. The sporophyte in the mosses is more elaborate than that in liverworts.
  7. The capsule contain spores.
  8. Spores are also formed after meiosis and develop into a new gametophyte.
