Question

When does the segregation of mendelian factor take place?

Open in App
Solution

Mendelian factors are also known as genes.

  1. In the living organisms, 2 alleles controlling each character maintain identity in the organism, but during the formation of gametes or spores, by meiosis move apart due to the separation of the homologous chromosomes present on them, so that each gamete or spore receives only one allele of each character randomly.
  2. It is called the Law of segregation.
  3. It occurs during the anaphase – I stage of meiosis.
