Cardiac output:

  1. Cardiac output is used to know the health condition of the heart. It is the product of stroke volume and heart rate and is measured in liters per minute.
  2. Stroke volume is the volume or amount of blood pumped from a ventricle in a single heartbeat.
  3. Heart rate is the number of times the heart beats per minute.
  4. Cardiac output is measured in some therapies to know the accuracy of therapy and also measured in some diagnoses.
  5. Measurement of Cardiac output helps in keeping blood pressure at the level of requirement to supply oxygen-rich blood to the brain and other organs.
  6. Pulmonary artery catheter, transpulmonary thermodilution, pulse contour analysis, and esophageal Doppler are a few common methods to measure Cardiac output.
