Sago is a type of starch obtained from the cortex and pith of the stem and seeds of
Cycas.
Sago is a stored form of starch (almost pure), consisting of about 88% of carbohydrates, 0.5% of proteins, and minute amounts of fats and vitamin B.
Uses:
It is used as food by the plant itself in absence of photosynthesis (when sunlight is absent).
In the south-west Pacific region, it is used in making pudding, cakes, and soups and as a textile stiffener in industries.
