Alginate:

  1. Alginates are an anionic polymer extracted from a brown seaweed found in nature.
  2. It has excellent biomedical applications due to its cheap, less toxic, and biocompatible nature.
  3. With the help of different methods, many drugs, Proteins, can be derived from alginates.
  4. Alginate gels can also facilitate cell transplantation in tissue engineering.
  5. Commercially alginates are obtained from brown algae (Phaeophyceae), including Laminaria sp., Laminaria japonica, Ascophyllum nodosum, and Macrocystis pyrifera.
