Hemoglobin :

  1. Oxygen is transported by erythrocytes or RBCs. Hemoglobin present in red blood cells carries oxygen in the blood.
  2. Oxygen dissolves in the blood, only a small amount of oxygen is transported this way.
  3. Only 1.5 percent of oxygen in the blood is dissolved directly into the blood itself.
  4. Most oxygen—98.5 percent—is bound to a protein called hemoglobin and carried to the tissues.
