Ovaries:

  1. They are the ductless reproductive glands found only in females and is found in pair.
  2. It is the part of the female reproductive system that generates the reproductive cells, that is, the egg cells or the oocytes.
  3. They are held by membranes besides the uterus on each side of the lower abdomen.
  4. The egg produced by the ovaries during the ovulation of the menstrual cycle is transported to the fallopian tube, where it gets fertilized by the sperm during sexual reproduction.
  5. The process by which an offspring is produced is termed reproduction, it is further of two types, that is, sexual and asexual mode of reproduction.
  6. In sexual reproduction, the haploid egg and the haploid sperm produced by the female and male parent are fused at the time of fertilization, giving rise to the diploid zygote, which further develops into an embryo.
