Question

Which is the first cloning vector?

Open in App
Solution

Cloning Vector:

  1. Herbert Boyer and Stanley Cohen created the first cloning vector. It was a plasmid vector known as pSC101.
  2. The cloning vector is a short bit of DNA into which the distant DNA is put for cloning.
  3. The vector could be a DNA molecule in the host cell that does not carry the distant DNA.
  4. It features self-replication and integration capabilities. Plasmids are small, circular DNA molecules that can replicate on their own.
  5. They are, however, not reliant on an organism's chromosomal DNA for replication.
  6. Plasmids are commonly referred to as extra-chromosomal DNA because of this property.
