Question

Which part of sperm enters an egg in humans?

Open in App
Solution

Sperm:

  1. Humans produce sperm, a male gamete.
  2. The head, neck, and tail of the sperm make it up.
  3. The sperm enters the egg when it comes into contact with it during fertilization.
  4. The sperm head enters the ovum's pellucid zone.
  5. The ovum instantly generates enzymes and stiffens the outer coating upon penetration to prevent the entry of further sperm.
  6. In the same procedure, the sperm tail is left outside the ovum and only the head is allowed to enter.
