Question

How does the hypothalamus form as a link between the nervous and endocrine systems?

Open in App
Solution

Hypothalamus

  1. The brain's hypothalamus is a small area. It can be found near the pituitary gland at the base of the brain.
  2. Because the hypothalamus is part of the brain, it is also part of the nervous system.
  3. It does, however, secrete a number of releasing and inhibiting hormones (7 in all) that control pituitary gland hormone release.
  4. Because it secretes hormones that control other endocrine glands, the pituitary is known as the endocrine gland's master gland.
  5. As a result, hypothalamus hormones can rightfully be described as a crucial link between the neurological and endocrine systems.
