  3. The anterior pituitary gland produces and secretes Luteinizing Hormone (LH) in response to high-frequency GnRH release.
  4. LH stimulates theca cells and luteinized granulosa cells, causing ovulation, uterine implantation of fertilized oocytes, and ovarian progesterone production.
  5. LH interacts with Theca cells in the ovary, which are next to granulosa cells, prior to the LH surge.
  6. The increased activity of proteolytic enzymes weakens the ovarian wall, allowing the oocyte to get through. This produces the ideal condition for follicular eruption.
