  2. In both freshwater and marine environments, these bacteria multiply spontaneously.
  3. Blue-green algae can produce toxins that can be harmful to humans as well as other animals.
  4. Blue-green algae can produce both nerve toxins (neurotoxins) and liver toxins (hepatotoxins).
  5. Exposure to these toxins can cause diarrhea, vomiting, allergic reactions, and other life-threatening consequences.
