Question

Why are hydra called diploblastic animals?

Open in App
Solution

Hydra:

  1. In Hydra, the cells are arranged into two germinal layers: the outer layer is ectoderm and the inner layer is known as endoderm.
  2. Between the ectoderm and endoderm layer, a layer of undifferentiated cells is present known as mesoglea.
  3. Such pattern of embryonic layers is seen in the diploblastic animals. Therefore, Hydra is referred to as a diploblastic animal.
