Agaricus:

  1. Agaricus belongs to the kingdom of fungi.
  2. They are the genus of the most important cultivated edible mushroom, A. bisporus, also known as button mushroom.
  3. Agaricus mushrooms are used for treating type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, and digestive problems.
  4. It is also used to prevent heart disease, weakened bones, and stomach ulcers.
  5. Niacin, folic acid and pantothenic acid are also present abundantly. They are rich sources of phosphorus, calcium, potassium and iron.
  6. Generally, they have low fat and carbohydrate contents, but high protein content. Therefore, it provides a good food ingredient for diabetics.
  7. Hence, due to its various benefits species of Agaricus are cultivated.
