Question

Why are vascular bundles in monocotyledons said to be closed?

Open in App
Solution

Monocotyledons:

  1. The complex tissues: xylem and phloem together consist of the vascular system of the trees.
  2. The cambium is present between the xylem and phloem, and thus can make the secondary xylem and phloem tissue.
  3. This type of vascular bundles are called open vascular bundles and are found in dicotyledon trees.
  4. In monocotyledon trees the cambium is absent, and thus it cannot make the secondary xylem and phloem.
  5. These types of vascular bundles are called closed vascular bundles.
