Solution

Transgenic plants:

  1. Transgenic plants are plants whose DNA is modified and altered via genetic engineering.
  2. A foreign gene of interest is introduced into the host cell and the host's genetic makeup is permanently altered.
  3. The development of transgenic plants is a major advantage for the agricultural field.
  4. Such plants have high yields and have low production costs.
  5. They have inbuilt insect resistance and thus have reduced the usage of pesticides.
  6. These crops are fortified with excess nutrients and have a high nutritional value. Such transgenic crops are used to treat malnutrition commonly observed in developing countries.
