Question

Why is a Virus not alive?

Open in App
Solution

A virus is not alive nor dead because:

  1. When a virus exits the host's body, as when it grows over a rock or in lich regions, it is considered dead.
  2. When a virus enters the body, it becomes alive. While dwelling inside the host's body, it consumes all nutrition and spreads illness.

Virus as a living organism:

  1. Viruses are small organisms with both living and non-living features.
  2. A virus is made up of a strand of DNA or RNA that is encased in a protein coat.
  3. The presence of nucleic acid (DNA or RNA) and protein in a virus indicates that it is living.
  4. They can also respond to their surroundings in the host cell, although only to a limited extent.

Virus as a non-living organism:

Viruses are non-living because they are unable to multiply without the help of the host cell's machinery and because they are acellular.
